Age and eligibility
HCA accepts enrolments from age 16. Course eligibility is separate from permission to work: you must be 18 to perform gaming duties in NSW.
Identification
Bring photo ID and the original documents requested in your booking confirmation. A first competency-card application at Service NSW requires 100 points of acceptable original ID.
USI
Have your Unique Student Identifier ready and make sure your enrolment details match your ID. A valid USI is needed for nationally recognised certification unless an exemption applies. Get a USI.
Certification
A Statement of Attainment is issued after successful completion of the course requirements. You must also pass Liquor & Gaming NSW’s online assessment before receiving your RCG interim certificate. See the card steps below.

What Is RCG and Who Needs It in NSW?
RCG means Responsible Conduct of Gambling. It prepares you for responsible gambling duties in NSW venues with gaming machines, such as hotels and clubs.
The course covers SITHGAM022 – Provide responsible gambling services. It is relevant to workers whose duties include gaming-machine payouts or working in gaming areas, as well as other designated roles. Your employer can confirm which training your role requires.
What the NSW RCG Course Covers
Learn about gambling harm, NSW gaming rules and the responsibilities of staff in gaming venues. Training covers recognising signs that a patron may need support, responding appropriately and applying harm-minimisation practices.
Your trainer will explain the course activities and assessment requirements, with practical examples to help you understand how these responsibilities apply at work.
NSW Course Requirements: ID, USI and Eligibility
Bring photo identification, your booking confirmation and your Unique Student Identifier. Your enrolment details should match your ID. If you need a USI, create one for free before training.
HCA accepts students from age 16, but gaming work has separate age restrictions. Contact us before booking if you need learning support or are unsure about your documents. Check your email and mobile number are correct so you can receive the post-course assessment link.

HCA’s NSW RCG course runs over one classroom day in Sydney CBD, with six hours of training plus breaks. Prices start from $150, including course materials and the NSW competency card fee. Be available for the full session.
The Liquor & Gaming NSW online assessment is an additional step after your course. Check current RCG dates, prices and session times.
After Your Course: Assessment and Interim Certificate
After your course result is lodged, Liquor & Gaming NSW sends a link to its online RCG assessment. You must pass this before receiving your interim certificate or starting gaming duties.
The interim certificate lasts 90 days. First-time card applicants take it and 100 points of original ID to Service NSW. If you already hold a current NSW competency card, your RCG endorsement is added and a replacement card is issued. Read the official RCG assessment and card steps.
How Long Does NSW RCG Last?
NSW competency cards are valid for five years. Check the expiry on your card and complete the required refresher process to keep your endorsement current.
Adding RCG to an existing card does not restart its five-year period: endorsements share the expiry based on the earliest endorsement. Keep your contact details up to date and check the regulator’s instructions before booking training to renew an expired card. Read the competency-card and renewal guidance.
RCG, RSG and Interstate Training
Other states often use the term Responsible Service of Gambling, or RSG. The terminology, approved training and employment requirements vary across Australia.
An interstate qualification does not automatically satisfy NSW’s RCG requirements. Before starting work in a new state, check the relevant gaming regulator’s rules and the training required for your duties. Contact HCA if you are unsure which NSW course to book.

RCG NSW Frequently Asked Questions
Who needs an RCG certificate in NSW?
RCG is required for relevant duties involving gaming machines in NSW hotels and clubs. This includes paying gaming-machine winnings and working in gaming areas, along with certain supervisory and licensee responsibilities. Confirm the requirements for your specific role before starting work.
Is this RCG course online?
HCA’s course on this page is face-to-face in Sydney CBD. The separate online assessment sent by Liquor & Gaming NSW is a required step after the classroom course; it does not replace your training.
How old do I need to be?
HCA accepts RCG enrolments from age 16. Completing the course does not remove age restrictions on employment: you must be 18 to carry out gaming duties in NSW. Contact HCA before booking if you are under 18 or unsure about your eligibility.
What identification should I bring?

What should I bring on training day?
Bring your required ID, USI and booking confirmation, and arrive before the session begins. Wear comfortable clothing; no special equipment is required and course materials are supplied. Be available for the full training and assessment session.
What happens after the classroom course?
After your course completion is lodged, look for the Liquor & Gaming NSW online assessment link sent to your email or mobile. Pass that assessment to receive your RCG interim certificate. Read the assessment and card section above for your next steps.
What happens if I do not pass the assessment?
HCA provides an opportunity to attempt the assessment again if you do not pass the first time. Your trainer will explain the next steps and any further training needed. Certification is issued only after successful completion.
What English, literacy and numeracy skills do I need?
You need to read course materials, complete forms and short written answers, communicate with your trainer and follow spoken instructions. Basic numeracy is also required.
