What is the RSA and RCG combo course?
The combo includes two courses together in one booking: SITHFAB021 – Provide responsible service of alcohol and SITHGAM022 – Provide responsible gambling services. You complete the training and assessment for each unit. It is convenient when your job involves both alcohol service and gaming responsibilities. Who Is the Combo For?
The combo course is suitable and required for roles in pubs, clubs, hotels and RSL venues where duties may cover both bar service and gaming. Bartenders, gaming attendants, floor staff and supervisors may benefit from both courses.
Note that you do not automatically need both just because your venue offers both services. Confirm the training required for your actual duties.
What You Will Learn
RSA covers responsible alcohol service, checking ID, recognising intoxication and refusing service appropriately.
RCG focuses on recognising gambling harm, communicating with customers and following responsible gambling procedures. Both courses use hospitality examples to explain responsibilities and help you respond to situations at work.
Choosing the Right State
Alcohol and gaming rules vary between states and territories. Choose the training where you intend to work. Holding the national units does not automatically meet every state’s approval, card or refresher requirements. If you plan to relocate, check both the liquor and gaming requirements before starting your new role.
Two Courses, Two Sessions
The NSW combo runs across two separate classroom sessions. Read both dates and start times before enrolling and make sure you can attend each full session. NSW RCG also requires a separate regulator online assessment before the interim certificate is issued. Your training and assessment instructions explain the next steps.

Entry Requirements, Identification and USI
RSA NSW enrolments are open from age 16, but you must be 18 to serve, sell or supply alcohol. RCG NSW requires you to be 18 or older to enrol. Bring 100 points of original photo ID for both courses, and have your USI ready. Contact us before booking if you’re unsure about your eligibility, identification, or need learning support.
Certification and Next Steps
You must successfully complete each course’s assessment to receive certification for that unit. Follow the NSW instructions for interim certificates and your competency card, including the RCG online assessment.

RSA & RCG Combo Frequently Asked Questions
Who needs both RSA and RCG?
The combo suits people whose work involves both serving alcohol and providing gambling services. Common settings include pubs, clubs, hotels and RSL venues. Check your duties with your employer; not every hospitality role requires both courses.
What ID do I need to bring with me?
For RSA, bring 100 points of original ID on the day. For RCG, bring one form of valid photo ID, a driver’s licence or passport. Have your Unique Student Identifier ready for both. You can create a USI free.
Later, when you collect your competency cards from Service NSW, you’ll need 100 points of ID again for each one.
What do I need on each training day?
Bring the ID and information requested in your confirmation, wear comfortable clothing and arrive before the start time. Course materials are provided. Check the instructions for both sessions, as they take place separately.
How long does the combo take?
The NSW combo includes two separate classroom course sessions. Check both dates and times before booking. You must also complete any required follow-up assessments, including the NSW RCG online assessment.
How long do my certificates last?
Both your RSA and RCG NSW competency cards are valid for 5 years. Before they expire, you renew each one separately through Liquor & Gaming NSW’s online refresher process, they don’t renew together even though you did the training as a combo. Keep an eye on both expiry dates.
Can I use the qualifications in other states?
Your RSA generally transfers, most states accept it, sometimes with a quick registration step, Victoria’s the main exception and needs its own bridging course.
Your RCG doesn’t transfer at all, it’s only valid in NSW, and NSW won’t accept an RCG or RSG from any other state either. If you move interstate, you’ll need to redo the gambling-service training locally, even though your RSA might carry over.
What if I fail an assessment?
HCA provides an opportunity to attempt the assessment again if you do not pass the first time. Your trainer will explain the next steps and any further training needed. Certification is issued only after successful completion.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy Requirements
You need enough English to read course materials, follow instructions, take part in discussions and complete written assessments, along with basic numeracy. Contact HCA before booking if you need learning support or reasonable adjustments.
