Anyone selling, serving or supplying alcohol in a Victorian licensed venue needs an RSA certificate. This covers bartenders, wait staff, bottle shop workers, and event and venue staff. If your role touches alcohol service in any way, you’re required to have it.
Is HCA’s VIC RSA course online?
Our coming Victoria RSA course will be offered face-to-face only. We’re working on adding an online option soon, so keep an eye out if that’s what you need.
How old do I need to be to join?
HCA accepts VIC enrolments from age 16. In Victoria, you need to be 18 to supply alcohol in licensed venues.
What identification do I need?
Just one form of current photo ID showing your name, date of birth and signature, a driver’s licence, passport, proof of age card or Keypass all work. You’ll also need a Unique Student Identifier (USI) before your certificate can be issued.
Do I need a USI?
You need a Unique Student Identifier before a Statement of Attainment can be issued for nationally recognised training, unless a valid exemption applies. Use your existing USI if you have one and check that your personal details match your enrolment. Find or create your USI.
What should I bring on training day?
Bring your required ID, USI and booking confirmation, and arrive before the session begins. Wear comfortable clothing; no special equipment is required and course materials are supplied. Be available for the full training and assessment session.
Can I use my RSA in another state?
Yes, in most cases. Your Victorian RSA is based on the same nationally recognised unit (SITHFAB021) used across Australia, so QLD, SA, WA, TAS, ACT and NT generally accept it, sometimes with a quick registration step.
NSW is the one exception, it requires its own full course regardless of where you trained. Check with the destination state’s liquor licensing regulator before you start work there.
What happens if I do not pass the assessment?
We provide an opportunity to attempt the assessment again if you do not pass the first time. Your trainer will explain the next steps and any further training needed. Certification is issued only after successful completion.
What English, literacy and numeracy skills do I need?
You need to read course instructions, complete forms and short written answers, communicate with the trainer, follow spoken instructions and understand basic times and quantities used in alcohol service.
If you need learning support or are unsure whether your English is suitable, contact HCA before booking. The team can discuss support and reasonable adjustments while ensuring the course requirements can be met. Email admin@hca.edu.au or call 1300 601 691.
