Who Can Do the RSG Course in QLD
Almost everyone can. As long as you meet the minimum vocational age requirement and bring valid photo ID on the day, you’re good to go. It doesn’t matter if you’re an Australian citizen, a visa holder, or brand new to Australia. If you’re unsure about anything, get in touch with our customer service team.
You must be 16 or older to enrol in an RSG course in Queensland. You must be at least 18 years old to legally work in a licensed gaming venue in QLD.
You must bring a photo ID on training day. Documents can include a licence, passport, etc. You also need a USI number That is free and you can get it online.
Once you complete the course, you'll receive your Statement of Attainment on the same day. This is your official RSG QLD certificate.

Who needs an RSG certificate in QLD?
If you work in any role that involves gaming machines at a licensed venue in QLD, you legally need an RSG certificate. That covers a wide range of jobs across the gaming and hospitality industry.
Gaming attendants, gaming supervisors, casino dealers, TAB operators, and club receptionists working in gaming areas all need one. So do cashiers in gaming venues, gaming managers, and anyone in a licensee or directorial role at a venue with poker machines or other gambling facilities.
Basically, if gambling is part of your job in any way, you need it.
Is the RSG online?
Yes, the QLD RSG is available online and self-paced with other providers. HCA only offers face-to-face training, which gives you direct access to a qualified trainer and hands-on practice throughout the day.
What ID do I need to take to the training?
You need to bring a valid government-issued photo ID on the day, such as a driver’s licence, passport, or proof of age card. You’ll also need your USI. If you don’t have one yet, head to usi.gov.au and it takes a few minutes to set up.
What do I need to bring with me on training day?
Bringing the correct ID is essential. It’s one of the most important requirements on the day. Please review our ID Requirements section above before attending to make sure you have the right documents.
Other than that, just bring yourself. There’s no need for any special clothing or equipment, just wear something comfortable. All course materials are provided at the venue.
How long does the RSG course take?
The RSG course in QLD runs for 6 hours and is completed in a single day. It covers everything you need to know about responsible gambling services, including gaming machine laws, how to identify problem gambling, your legal obligations, and how to handle difficult situations on the floor. It’s a full day of training, so make sure you’re free for the entire session.
How long does my QLD RSG certificate last?
Your QLD RSG certificate doesn’t expire. Once you complete the course, you’ll receive a Statement of Attainment which is your official proof of certification.
There’s no separate competency card, no interim certificate, and no renewal process. Queensland is one of the simpler states in that regard. You do the course once and you’re done.
Can I use my QLD RSG to work in other states?
Yes, in most cases. The course covers the national unit of competency SITHGAM022, which is recognised across QLD, WA, NT, SA, and TAS. If you hold an RSG in Queensland and move to any of those states, you can work there without redoing the course.
The two exceptions are NSW and VIC. NSW requires you to complete the RCG course, which is a separate NSW-specific qualification done face-to-face with a live trainer. VIC has its own RSG requirements, so it’s worth checking with the relevant state authority before working there. All other states and territories accept your QLD certificate without any extra steps.
Is this course approved by the Queensland OLGR?
Yes. HCA is an accredited Registered Training Organisation (RTO) approved by the Queensland Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) to deliver the RSG course. The training and certification we provide fully meets QLD legal requirements. When you complete your course with us, you’ll receive an official Statement of Attainment recognised by licensed gaming venues across Queensland.
What if I fail the assessment?
If you don’t pass the assessment on your first attempt, you’ll have the opportunity to redo it. Our trainers are there to support you throughout the day, so if you’re struggling with any part of the material, please tell us and ask for help.
We want you to walk out with your certificate, and we’ll do what we can to make sure you’re set up to pass.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy Requirements
To successfully complete the RSG course in QLD (SITHGAM022 – Provide Responsible Gambling Services), all students must have a basic level of English language, literacy and numeracy. This ensures you can understand the course content and fully participate in training.
You must be able to:
- Read and understand written course materials, instructions, and short texts
- Write basic information, such as completing forms and short written answers
- Communicate clearly in English with the trainer and other participants
- Follow verbal instructions during activities and assessments
